The original MarlWiFi access site

With a working site-to-site bridge installed and other locals starting to express interest, we decided it was time to set up a permanent omnidirectional access point site so that multiple users accross town could join at their lesure. Russ was also getting ready to move to Christchurch so the bridge idea was rapidly grinding to a halt.

A local theatre The Marlborough Centre, kindly agreed to host the first permanent site for a Marlborough Wireless access point. We had sussed out several other locations but the Marlborough Centre’s central location and height, not to mention free hosting, was hard to beat.

One of the D-Link DWL-900AP+ access points was mated with a homebuilt 15dBi waveguide omnidirectional antenna and set up. Below are some photos of the original site installation.
